Whenever I try and direct my Avic on to my hand she will lay 1 or 2 of her feet on me but then withdraw/turn away, Is she scare of the feel/taste of people?one of her feet is slightly mangled so I'm thinking perhaps that her previous owner damaged her foot and since then she's learned to avoid hands? or does she just not find it steady enough, I don't shiver that much though. Anyone know what's going on? Or could she just have a weird character?

Understand that T's don't like to be handled. My guess is that this one just really doesn't want to be handled so there's nothing you can do. Avics are often skittish and will often avoid handling as much as possible.

T's don't like to be held, yours is no different. You are stressing it out,and one day it will all add up to a dead Avic.An "Arachnosquire" should know better.

Agreed; tarantulas do not like handling and this one seems to have figured out how to recognize hands and avoids them altogether.

Most spiders wont tolerate handling; it's not the fact that it might have been hurt by a human before, but probably because to it you seem like a potential predator. If you're looking for handling pets this is the wrong hobby. Just because some avics can tolerate humans doesn't mean yours has to. Ts have bad eyesight, so imagine wearing blindfolds while something starts touching you; most people wouldn't appreciate it. Make sure not to force yourself upon it or one of you to is going to end up getting hurt.

Like others have said, tarantulas really are not tolerant to handling. Attributing normal behaviour to abuse is you projecting your desire to have your t like to walk on your hand when the reality is that it doesn't want to walk on your warm, slightly moist, squishy skin because it feels unstable and not normal to it.

T's in a way taste with their feet, so maybe you're just unappetizing plus the constant vibrations coming from your pulse would understandably make a T feel uneasy.

I wouldn't base anyone's expertise on their "arachnoclass". It seems that just changes on post count. So someone who loves to post about nonsense could be an "arachnoprince" for example.

'Something' the size of Godzilla.
Lol sounds even more uncomfortable when the size is specified

Pretty sure that squire comment was simply meant as a point of humor.
Yea it was, but more so as a "relatable" depiction. I hope nobody took that out of context, I apologize if it was.

No tarantula will enjoy being handled, they'll just tolerate it. I know you didn't say that but I felt like you implied it.

It should not really come as a surprise that tarantulas don't like to be handled. I was under the impression that this was common knowledge for tarantula keepers, even novices. They're shy and secretive creatures with no need for social contact. Very simplistic and relying mainly on instincts to survive.

Au contraire... A fair number of people believe tarantulas: enjoy being handled, enjoy being petted, seek their keepers attention, etc. Some people have trouble differentiating inverts from dogs, cats, pet rodents, etc. If truth be told, even those mammals merely tolerate and do not always appreciate being 'mauled' by their human keepers.

Just look at craigslist ads for t's....so many say they are getting rid of them because they don't have time to play with them and give the attention they need. Or they flat you say their t likes being handled or pet....crazy.

I don't get why people would think that. It just puzzles me.

As others have said no T can enjoy being handled, they don't enjoy anything cause they have no emotion, only instinct. However in my experience Ts don't like the feel of skin, or perhaps the hairs on our skin. I have handled my a.avic and a.versi in the past and they don't like touching my skin but if I wear a long sleeved shirt they are perfectly comfortable on the fabric.

That said, I only handle them when rehousing or if I need to do intense maintenance on their enclosure, Ts are not to be played with, they get nothing from it

I don't know, I think the S. Calceatum I took care of wanted to be held because it came towards me very willingly. But honestly my rose hair seems to welcome any opening of the lid and often will walk over onto my hand and stay until I force her off.

My H.mac loves me<3 he goes and kisses me every day! I don't get why they hurt so much after? Oh well, I guess they're just love bites!

Not to start the whole handling debate once again, suffice to say that a lot of Avics excessively dislike the feel of human skin and avoid it as much as possible.
