Hi, i'll fill everybody in details when I feel better, i'm in a decent amount of pain. I think i should get outa this hobby, thats two in a month... Maybe i'll take up geckoes or something. Look for cheap T's in the classifieds in a few days.
Later,
Steve

D@mn, you have no luck. That is two! Jeez, dont get out of the hobby but for now I would sell off all your old world species untill you seem a little less "tasty" to tarantulas!!!

Lol. I'm getting in some nasty new worlds later too. Oh well, maybe i'll stick with Grammostola. But I think I'll give up my red phase rosie too. But Poecilotheria are the only spark that even kept me in the hobby. I don't have any right now, but I guess i'll get rid of all my aggressives, and I don't like urticating hairs.

Come on Steve.

Just a while back you said you were bitten by a Heteroscodra maculata and your parents were making you get out of the hobby. You have been trying to sell your t's on other sites for months.

If you really did get bitten twice within a month your parents are right. You are not ready for keeping tarantulas.

Now that is a little harsh, as I said earlier, dont get out of the hobby, just get rid of all your "nasty" tarantulas. You dont need to start with the most dangerous and aggressive spiders out thier. Get a Avicularia species or brachypelma. They are great lookers and are not generaslly inclined to bite.

Sorry to hear about you bites, that must suck.

I'd hate to see you get out the hobby just because of this though.
Take the other's advice and try some of the doscile T's.

Go with the Avic's, the Grammastola's and the Brachypelma's. No need to get of the hobby, just go with the T's that you know are cool.

I know you like the pokies, keep them, but just to look at:) I don't care to mess with my pokie, so I don't.

...ouch, that's GOTTA hurt!!

I'd have to agree about getting rid of your aggressives if you've been bitten twice in one month. Of course, I'm witholding my opinions overall until; the details are given on how it happened.

Tarantula bites are rare, so if you're really bitten twice in a month you must be doing something wrong, and I'm not surprised that your parents want you to get rid of your collection. Or you can try and get bitten a few more times and make it a research to whether you can build up immunity for the venom...;)

I hope you feel better soon. Keep us updated.

In Britain we generally handle our pet Ts a lot less than in most other countries. The BTS has a strict no handling policy. As a result we tend to get bitten a lot less too.

I only handle one of my Ts, a superbly docile B.vagans. Everything else is for looking at, like fish.

Sorry to say Steve, but it does sound like you are doing something wrong. Are you trying to handle these spiders? If you plan on keeping any of them, treat them strickly as display animals (including new world species). Hands off!

Yes, it does sound like you are doing something wrong. I use about a 14" endoscopy tool when doing maintenance, it's a very useful tool. I try to use the cricket hand puppet for entertaining the children, not tank maintenance. Speaking of display only, the last time I tried to handle my pirahna I got bit also...LOL!!! Aggressive T=hands off!!

Can you post a picture of the bit marks, because if you were bitten by a 7" gigas you will have the markes to prove it,sorry but i do not believe you,and if you were bitten i say to get rid off your aggressive Ts,and wait a few years till you have more experience!
Cause being bitten twice ina month is carelessness on your behalf!

Sham-
I doubt HIGHLY you will see a posted pic of this kids spider bite. I also am wondering what the orignal poster is doing wrong or if this is some strange attention getting post.?? boggle?
I have been keeping T's and scorps for several years and have only been bitten once and never stung. I do handle and have handled both T's and scorps, and honestly the bite I sustained was due ENTIRELY to my own foolishness. My vote would be exiting the hobby as well.

IF you really wanted to get rid of a collection you could contact someone who more then likely (a wholesaler?? perhaps) would take the whole lot off your swollen hands.

peace-
