Hi, I recently bought a 20-gallon tank but I have no idea what to put in it. It's the same size as two 10 gallon tanks stacked. Inverts only though because herps are too expensive. I don't want something terrestrial because of the waste of space. I also already have amblypygids and cockroaches are illegal here in Florida.

thanks.

It’s much easier to get an appropriate enclosure for an animal you want, rather than get an appropriate animal for an enclosure you already have. If you want an animal, sell the tank and use the money toward an appropriate enclosure. You’ll be better off.

Aren't some roach species legal in Florida like Blaberus atropos? For that large of a tank, I would only do something communal.
Here is a link to Florida legal species. May be old, but I figure it might help :D I adore roach displays. Big species are the best, as a lot of mine are out and about in the evening ;) IMO, it would be a much better display than any T or scorp that could fit a 20 gal.

The green banana roaches (Panchlora nivea) are kind of cool, if only because it will surprise people to see green roaches.
I need some of those myself :D I believe they can be found around Florida in the wild. So long as they have high humidity, they are great. Only problem is that they like to hide in the sub often.I love them though, super vibrant.

You could make a communal setup for Ghost Mantis.
They are one of the few species that can live communal and maybe you can get an ootheka (the "eggsack") cheaply.
Then you would only need a good way of heating, something to close the top and a source for the different foods they need throughout their lives.
