Huge centipede order on the way ...

That's an Ethmostigmus trigonopodus. Nice morph, but whoever labelled it "mirabilis" needs a good spanking :smirk:

    Any pics of the mirabilis?

    Centipede Housing

I don't know where you got yur info from, but a Tanzanian black headed centipede is in all likelihood Scolopendra morsitans and those really don't get very big at all. You'll be lucky if it hit 6-7", and they're of slender build. If it was mislabelled and is in fact an Ethmostigmus trigonopodus...

Huge centipede order on the way ...

We've not had Scolopendra sp "mirabilis/Tanzanian neon blue" exports to Europe or the US for quite some time, so will be very interesting to see what these look like, so please post some photos when you get them. I say Scolopendra sp "mirabilis" because it's not fully agreed that they are...

Huge centipede order on the way ...

There's no species with that name. There's Scolopendra mirabilis, which is questionable. Do you have a link to the seller's site, or photos?

So those were the Tanzanian Blue Rings, which are to the best of my knowledge, now the rarest variant that we have in captivity (as of a few weeks ago) so we can't call them common anymore. The ones which are common now are the ones from Niger and Cameroon, which tend to have orange, brown or...

    Care sheet indepth info

Longipes was synonymised with alternans at some point, making them the same species, but then longipes was resurrected into its own species in 2016 here: https://www.biotaxa.org/Zootaxa/article/view/zootaxa.4111.1.1 My understanding is that has since been challenged, but I can't find where. The...

    Centipede restless

You're going to kill it in that enclosure. The tall walls, lack of low level ventilation and ridiculously high humidity will cause a build up of stale air, leading to mycosis. That could very well be why it's running around like crazy trying to escape - it's literally a death trap. My advice...

What are the differences between scolopendra morsitans and suspinipes? Color diff, pattern, texture.

You can always edit your posts 😉 Scolopendra subspinipes is highly varied, with many colour patterns, and is probably a species complex. Most varieties grow to 5/6" but a few are larger. They originate from East Asia but have spread to tropics around the world. They have very long, spindly...

    Care sheet indepth info

These can be kept like alternans, and depending on whether you accept the latest taxonomic revision they are the same thing. Keep at high 20's during the day with a drop to low 20's at night, with decent amount of substrate as they burrow, not too dry and not too damp either. Ps: please...

    Size difference

All Ethmostigmus in Africa are Ethmostigmus trigonopodus, and they vary in adult size from 5" to 8", with the Kenyan Blue Leg being the largest. I'm not sure which one you think is the "common" one...

    Help ID please

The confusion is that people coming from the tarantula hobby expect each species to have a scientific name plus a common name, so they put "Ethmostigmus trigonopodus" into Google and land on page like https://www.exotic-pets.co.uk/tanzanian-blue-ring-centipede.html (2nd result on Google for...

Does centipede have problems with inbreeding ?

We don't yet know what the full effects of inbreeding are on centipedes, and it is likely to be complex. There have been a surprising number of studies done on spiders which you can find on Google. They generally indicate a reduced fitness, but also that there are trade-offs in certain species...

    Finally got a S. Dehanni

I'm gathering you have kept giant centipedes before, so you should know how to wrangle and move them, although it is much easier with a SA giant than one of these. The only difference I would say is because these are a bit more prone to panic mode, you must treat these like any other highly...

    Mites on centipede

My two cents on this is that you really shouldn't do this to get rid of mites unless they are clearly parasitic, which is rare (but not completely unheard of). Your original pictures shows mite in hypopus stage, meaning they are just cocoons hoping to be carried to a better place by the...

    The future of captive breeding

Very nice cingulata collection! Are these all from Italy? I found some pretty ones on the Costa Merlata a few years back, right beside the sea.

    Scolopendra galapagoensis breeding

We had a clutch in the UK the previous year by @Salvador and I think there was variation in the plings, but they all darkened out at perhaps 5" mark. I take it both parents were dark morph?

    Vietnamese centipede with eggs

True, and the tracking of offspring is a problem for various other reasons. I think people generally know if they have a wild caught or a CB, given that CB tend to be obtained directly from the breeder/lucky sod who got a clutch. I very much wish we had parthenogenesis in Scolopendra, it would...

    Vietnamese centipede with eggs

Well there is sufficient proof in numbers to quite confidently state that a second clutch is down to sperm retention and not parthenogenesis. Some people have been keeping Scolopendra close to 3 decades, and in that time 1000's of centipedes from dozens of species have been born in captivity...

    Vietnamese centipede with eggs

Agree with all those good points, except the parthenogenic part - there is no evidence of that in Scolopendra as of yet. I'm not ruling it out, but to my knowledge no captive born female has ever produced a clutch.
