Without putting a tape measure to it I’d say it was around 4” or so. It was big. I’m in the Houston area.
I’ll keep an eye out for more. I’m sure they are out there!
Thanks! I just read up a bit more about their spray. I guess I got lucky. I didn’t expect it to be that big of a deal but apparently it can temporarily blind you!
I’ve been a no-pesticides person for a while so I’ve had lots of good backyard finds. We moved recently and we’re by a field so we get even more cool stuff in the backyard.
Can anyone identify this guy/ gal? Before I release it back I’d like to make sure its native since I know invasive...
Yep, pretty new to the US and not much written on them, much less in english. Only a couple adults that I’m aware of and one, maybe two sling imports. She’s ready to breed but I don’t think there’s a MM in the states.
Yes, there are dual mirror patches with urticating hairs. She hasn’t...
VERY careful use of diatomaceous earth? Water/ liquid pretty much neutralizes DE so its easily removable once you’ve treated and left it a couple of days.
Do more research before just taking my word. Exposing your Ts will kill them.
For my first I ordered a P smithi and P rufilata sling. The “smithi” actually turned out to be a subfusca so I had to buy a real smithi.
P rufilata is still my favorite.

Well I’ve been away for a while but I have plenty of free time now so figured I’d check in. I thought I’d make my first post back a good one.
My AF B lamasi molted about 3 weeks ago. She’s small enough that pictures aren’t easy but here are a couple. Such a cool species!
Thanks a bunch! Now the question is do I leave it there and go hunting for a couple after it hatches or do I attempt to remove it and bring it in to hatch and let most of them go?
I found a second egg case on the same tree so I’m sure there are more close by if I look further.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? This is on an oak tree in my backyard. From what I’ve read web worms and bark lice are the two local insects that make webbing on oak around here but I couldn’t find reference to an egg case like this. Anyone have a guess?
Thats absolutely true. Someone has to blaze that path though and there is nothing wrong with asking questions about it and discussing it.
OP, as you said sometimes they do things for reasons we don’t understand. Thats especially true with a species like this where not much is known about...
