So glad to hear that they're eating and doing well for you! Sorry about the losses, but it's great to hear that the remaining ones seem to be continuing to molt and grow. Definitely keep us posted!
I just got into the hobby myself. I love brightly coloured Ts. I love interesting patterns and markings. I have spent many hours looking at photographs and drooling over beautiful spiders. Every time I see something that I particularly like, I add it to my list. Right now, I've got ~35 species...
Condiment cups, pill vials, and deli containers are definitely your cheapest options and should be relatively easily available. However, if you can't get any for some reason, you could try a small Really Useful Box. They're easy to ventilate with a soldering iron. And the 0.14L size works...
You mean like this? This could also work depending on whether or not the front opening feature would be a benefit or a drawback for your purposes. And this is a similar size but without the open front. I'm sure there are others as well, but those are the products that immediately spring to mind...
Yeah, there's a reason I picked G. pulchra as my first T. Love that velvety black! Mine's still pretty small and doesn't have its adult colouration yet, but I'm looking forward to watching it grow.
Fair. You caught me! Fossorial and terrestrial tend to get lumped together in my head most of the time.
I guess if I have to stay away from burrowers I'd go with: G. pulchra, Ischnocolinae sp. Dominican Republic, and maybe Euathlus sp. red.
Yeah, I was pretty surprised too when I first read about it. I must admit, I've never tried it myself, so I can't vouch for it personally, but it seems to be okay based on what those who use that approach have said.
I don't know if this works with terrestrial plants or not, but many aquatic plants can be washed in a 10% bleach solution, then thoroughly rinsed before planting if one is worried about contamination. It doesn't sterilize, but it does at least sanitize.
Yep! They've got it all as far as I'm concerned: beautiful colours, decent size, fascinating behaviour, and heavy webbers. Could you ask for anything more in a spider? They're what got me interested in keeping Ts in the first place. Sadly, I don't have any yet, but I'm hoping I'll be able to...
Did you even look at the threads I linked? There're links to threads on "intermediate" Ts in there as well as first arboreals and first OWs. And if you read my post I mentioned that there's lots of great info in Ts with specific traits in that quick reference guide. So if you want something very...
There are already several threads full of spider recommendations. A couple new ones have even been started in the last few days. Before you make a new thread asking for recommendations, check the existing ones. If you have specific questions or want additional info or recommendations after that...
I would keep providing water in the form of fruit and veggies. Potato, watermelon, carrot, apple, and cucumber all work well. Personally, I toss in a bit of cat kibble when I want to give my crickets a protein boost, but I know many people use fish flakes for the same purpose.
It doesn't have to be anything fancy or expensive. As already mentioned, Sterilite tubs should be readily available and inexpensive. Many people here on the boards also use plastic gallon jars from Walmart with good success. Really Useful Boxes are also an option if you're willing to do some...
And to confuse matters more, the common name "daddy long legs" is also used to refer to Opiliones (aka harvestmen) and Tipulidae (aka crane Flies). Where I grew up "daddy long legs" always meant "Opiliones", but it is a regional thing as far as I know and the default meaning for "daddy long...
