Congratulations on your first tarantula. Avics are cute little fuzzballs.
1) at 2.5”, it’s big enough for one large cricket. You’re good at 1 a week. My Avics tend to eat at night. I prefer to feed right before the lights go out.
2) Watering, as stated above, ventilation is key. Put a...
A couple thoughts.
The A seemanni does not belong on your list. They are far too skittish. I’m not big on handling my tarantulas. It’s an ego thing that beginning enthusiasts need to work through before the finally realize it is of no benefit to the tarantula and the only real outcome for the...
I’m not the expert here by any stretch of the imagination. I bought that A sp red. About 4 months after that, I bought an A chacoana at a show. Both females, both the same size. They are identical. I have to agree with @Exoskeleton Invertebrates on this.
A webbed over entrance is a do not disturb sign. Darlingi are very hardy. If it was eating well, it's most likely in good shape. I wouldn't worry at all. It's normal premolt behavior. Keep the water dish filled or if no dish, keep a section of the soil moist.
I guess that would depend on the size and sex of the H minax. Based on the amount you'd spend on gasoline and if you had anything else to do, that's up to you. Slings aren't worth much. A mature female would be worth the drive. If there is something you wanted to do at the destination, the free...
Yes leave it alone and don't touch it for now. You'll know soon enough (in a day or two) if it passed. It was most likely molting. It's a tough thing as a new keeper to leave them alone when they are upside down or not moving.
I doubt it. Tarantulas probably just sensed something that it wasn't sure of and jumped back. Crickets are really only a danger when the tarantula is molting or immediately there after.

A pet tarantula died in an early morning...
Even double pain, your windows are the place where heat escapes. another layer over them will help a little. Make your house smaller, close off rooms that don't get use.
Do you have a fire place? Use it. Hopefully the power comes back on.
The GBB is a great choice, reasonably priced and very hardy. @viper69 , what's a mini GBB? D. diamantinensis? Those are cool too, but small. Great choice and not common at all. P sazami is so blue and pretty as an adult as well.
I raise my own roaches and buy crickets for the ones that don't eat roaches. The Petco and Petsmart I go to have crickets out where I can sneak a peak I always take a look in the bin. If there were a bunch of dead ones in there, I'll pass. I've never had an issue with them. I also know one Petco...
Your GBB should grow pretty fast. If you find an E sp Red in anything other than a sling, jump on it. They don’t last on the open market. They grow slow too.
Yep. Every time I seem to worry, they are as they are supposed to be. They are resilient and tough creatures all while being fragile. Long fasts and premolts can be the worst to wait for. My first big hurdle was the upside down tarantula.
I was same boat. I probably would have never continued keeping tarantulas if I started with slings. Probably the first 6 or so tarantulas I bought were sub adult or mature. I was too immediate gratification for slings.
