I've never had a good experience using flooding. The last time I tried that method, it stayed submerged in the flooded burrow and just made digging it out a muddy mess.
This is exactly how I view it. Even if it wasn't a dumb idea and actually worked long term, why would you want to have to deal with that during maintenance.
It should be ok. I just mixed in some sand and packed it tight to help hold it's burrow together. I also gave it a piece of cork bark that it dug under.
I keep mine dry on a deep sand and peat moss mix. Occasionally I over fill the water dish and let it run down the side to the bottom. It stays in it's burrow most of the time, but I still see it a lot also. It's a great eater and has never turned down food.
Start using proper heat sources regulated by a thermostat so that doesn't happen again. Things like hot rocks and unregulated heat pads that pet stores will push on you are garbage for this reason.
I think we might live in the same area, I bought 2 of them that size recently at a local pet store. I usually don't like to spend money there because they are a generally terrible store, but I caved in for those. I tried keeping them in a deli cup type set up like you mentioned, but...
