    Psyttala horrida assassin bugs question

Picked up several p horrida nymphs, my first time keeping any assassin bugs. Does this setup seem appropriate? No substrate just a piece of bark and some moss for humidity. Not sure about the moss and wondering if I should remove it, I've heard they like high humidity but for their surroundings...

Any tips or suggestions for hatching wheel bug eggs?

...wheel bugs before - never eggs or hatchlings. My understanding is that wheel bugs are much harder to rear from eggs than the African assassin bugs, which I've raised for years. I tried combing through the archives, but most of the discussions about hatching wheel bugs are pretty old - and...

Enclosure I just put together for an incoming Pokie

I will definitely pack down the substrate more. Sometimes I loosen the substrate a bit to make it easier to make a dirt curtain. But come to think of it, I don't think they'd have issues with excavating if they wanted to lol. I think I'll leave that wall empty then. I just thought that maybe...

Assassin bug taking an age to reach final moult?

I have a bit of an odd one here. I have 5 Psytalla horrida currently. 4 are adults and the last to reach adulthood moulted probably a month or two ago. The remaining one is still a subadult. I got them all together and throughout their lives so far they'd always all moulted within a week or two...

    Vinegaroon substrate question

I know this sort of thing has been asked before, but I wanted some input on substrate for a vinegaroon. I currently have assassin bugs and recently swapped them out to have a thin layer of sand as a substrate, since they tolerate dry conditions quite well and it's so much easier to sieve for...

    Unusual scorpion behaviour?

Attached. Tried my best to get them as focussed as possible. Got an underside photo too. Differentiated by writing on tube and which tattoo they were vibing on. Plain tube goes with Tetris (ik it needs fixing, lol) and tube with writing goes with assassin's creed logo. They were hanging out...

Will this assassin bug survive with this deformity?

I've just had one of my assassin bugs moult, and I'm not sure what's caused it but it's had a bit of a bad moult and has a deformed leg and wings. Will it still hunt and survive okay?

Prickly, spiny & not so horrid - Psyttala horrida

Just sharing with you a lateral pic of one of my P. horrida that show well the magnificent array of spines crowining the thorax and scutellum of this species. I'm pretty sad that the offer of Reduvidae in the hobby (at least here in Italy) is almost totally restricted to a few Platymeris species...

    Molting Psyttala horrida

Psyttala (often mispelled as Psytalla) contain the largest species of assassin bugs (family Reduviidae) in the world, i've sometimes seen P. horrida (45-50 mm) pointed out as the largest of them all but not on scientific publications so i'm not sure about that. Regarding diet, they feed on a...

    Molting Psyttala horrida

I know nothing about these things...how big are they actually? And what do you feed them? I'm assuming an "assassin" has a nasty bite, yes?
