I made a small bioactive enclosure for my new zebra isopods because I thought it was a shame having them in an opaque box in my spider room where I can't see and observe them. ;) And they seem to love it... quite literally. ;P
@Arthroverts If I remember correctly there were 16 at various sizes when I put them in. It was the starter culture I got from a German breeder.
Let's see how many there'll be in a few months.
Looks amazing!! Awesome job!! I did something similar with an A. vulgare culture I collected! And I’m establishing the containers right now in prep for I believe some big Porcellio spp. I just got some living moss from my local woods that I’m going to try and get going. I think in general how isopods are kept it a shame….in opaque sterile tubs where you have to open the lid to see them I personally don’t get why it’s the norm!!? There too amazing to not be able to look at all the time!!
the ones I have and plan to keep are in display enclosures! I just found a pretty darn good clear acrylic type box for $13 that I’m going to use for isopod enclosures from now on. I wish it had a little more height to it for air space but I’m thinking it should do just fine!
