versicolor

versicolor sac opening. Every single one appears to be a healthy first instar :)
Is opening sacks a common practice in the tarantula hobby? If so, what are the benefits? 😁

you take the sac so that you can control its inhabitants. Most prefer not to let them hatch with mom, because wrangling them all up can be quite a hassle and you man=y not even find them ll.

Also, by taking sacs earlier, you can save sacs as if one egg is bad, it quickly spreads in an enclosed egg sac, quickly leading to a total loss.

I usually pull pretty early...but she was so webbed in and such a great mom (typical of most avic types) that I left it...I think today was day 39 or 40
I pulled one recently at day 45 and they looked really dry inside so glad I did as dont think many would have survived. Finished incubation until they became little blue floofers (85 in total made it, lost 12 during final incubation). I normally leave with mum until day 52 though. Got another versi sac currently at day 38 so may pull that soon to avoid any 'dry' sac. Thank you 👍
