Well the title says it all. I tried to prevent with a few honey covered flies as a treat before and during but he stayed connected for days and eventually she chomped his head. Most interestingly I could not get him off of her. I kept trying to remove him with forceps and he kept climbing back on.
Very interesting picture and story. I knew that they stayed attached during mating even if the male was being eaten, but I didn't know it had the capability to climb back on.
Excuse my ignorance with mantids, but why does the male lack the first set of legs? It would have no way to catch and eat prey, no?
