This guy fell out of a bunch of bananas from South America (Panama). We took him to a reptile shop who told us it was a 'Pumpkin Patch Tarantula' (Hapolopus sp Colombia) but we have doubts. Someone on Twitter suggested it was Hapolopus coloratus (or Metriopelma coloratum as was)
+1 for Hapolopus coloratus. Looks to be right, also because it's the only Panama native species of this genus.

Unfortunately the image here doesn't show all of the possible spots on the top, sides, and bottom of the abdomen, but from what is shown it matches Ray Gabriel's description of Hapalopus coloratus from Panama stating "The holotype in UCR and other specimens, including exuvia in MIUP and PMY, from the Darién province of Panama, all have 19 very distinct, orange/yellow spots on the abdomen. These markings are similar to those found in the species Hapalopus triseriatus Caporiacco, 1955. The more distinct orange spots are the three dorsomedial, while the eight dorsolateral and eight ventrolateral spots are more yellow than orange."

@vicareux That seems to be the consensus, but thank you for adding re: Panama

@viper69 Thank you! It's good to discard potential names too. and thanks, my sister took it, her phone's got a crazy good camera

@Kitara lol, I'm sorry! Lucky dip

@AphonopelmaTX wow, thank you for the very detailed description. I'm going to try to upload some more photos, I'll try and get a view other angles for everyone's viewing pleasure. Thank you very much for weighing in!

@Arthroverts It was found bunched up at the top of some bananas that were just plucked right off Asda's shelves, but I'm not sure if they were in a bag or just loose.

@Edan bandoot I can't find any around here, for sure, but he's mine now! lol.

@KillBoxSpider it was startlingly pretty. Try bananas from Asda's? lol
