Sold as G. rosea

Avicularia avicularia aka. the A. avic

Gosh, how can someone sell an Avic as a G. rosea? That's ridiculous! :wideyed:

@Thekla Thank you so much! I definitely need to get her into a different enclosure now. I've only had her for 2 days, and her sticking to the ceiling and walls makes so much more sense. I thought 'There's no way I was sold an arboreal tarantula as a terrestrial, right?' Turns out the suspicion was right, I guess.

I'm assuming you got this from a pet store?

Congratulations on your first T. If I may recommend buying your next one for a dealer on here, or check out your next closest reptile expo. Most pet stores have no idea what they are doing for husbandry or in some cases species.

I am so glad you reached out on your own so you can take care of you new pet.

@Ronald Fults I did, and I'll never buy one from a pet store again. The night I bought her, I read why not to buy a T from a pet store. It's regrettable, but at least I feel far more prepared than a pet store was to take care of it.

@Drea Yeah, the workers I asked on two separate occasions had no idea what I was talking about when I identified it as a G. rosea (that was the species label on the tag outside the enclosure). They had no tips nor instructions for me as to how to care for them, either. Just a pamphlet about diseases you can get from animals you buy at a pet store. Luckily enough though, I felt pretty prepared independently of my visit to the store when I bought the T. Because they were too scared to open the enclosure to take the water dish out, they were prepared to give me the water dish too (it took up about 45% of the enclosure's bottom).

Needless to say, I have confidence the T is in better care with me than in that store!
