Red Runners

My first colony is beginning to grow.Good...never thought I would say that about roaches.
@mack1855 Nice to see the colony start to boom with success. I've actually downsized my colony again sometime back, so my colony is a relatively average sized colony now. I downsize my colony every now and then to reduce the stress of having too much in terms of population.

@mantisfan101 Holler at me if you need any tips. I had a colony of RRs for a year or so. Once the first ooths that are dropped hatch and reach maturity...hold on to your hat because they multiply mach 5 from then on out. As per usual I have to recommend McMonigle "For the Love of Roaches". Best roach book Ever.

@mantisfan101 It really depends. The females will lose their minds in a moist substrate and put them all there. They will get molded over if you are not vigilant. If you have the extra time you can move the ones they drop into a hatchery. Higher humidity chamber, it will also make separating them easier. You thought the adults were fast? Perfect food, humidity, and vibrant males you will have ootheca that hatch in a few weeks. Any variation and the adults will start to cannibalize the nymphs.
Mold is pretty much your #1 enemy when breeding them. If you are super busy you can incorporate some alphitobius diaperinus to keep the mold down. Be very aware this is an invasive creature that carries poultry diseases and is pretty hardy.

@RoachCoach how much humidity should there be? I don’t spray them at all but I offer some veggies which seems to increase the humidity and make all the eggcrates damp.

@RoachCoach also I noticed that there’s some white fluffy stuff that doesn’t look like hair but it looks more like a fluffy hard layer on their food and in the floor; should I be concerned about this? Also how should I offer stuff like fruits and veggies without risking mold?
