Polly, the Cobalt Blue

I just got a cobalt blue named Polly. I've read on how nasty these guys are and when I first saw Polly it was trying to attack its handler. At home I let Polly crawl onto my hand, It didn't give me single threatening pose as it calmly walked on my hand. How often dos this happen with this species?
Yeah,that's not a good idea.
Handled 3 avics,A. avic,A. metallica,and an A. versicolor last night,first time,dunno exactly why(coming to these boards has pushed me a little,lol),felt like I had huge spider-handling guts. You,my friend,are a nutball.
:p Teasing.
Awesome pic,tho.

Well, you have now tried it, but i will also advice you not to, i have kept many haplos over the years, they share one common trait....They are unpredictable, they can behave good a long time, and then all of the sudden just go crazy in a split second.

Very brave youngster!!! No way in my 9 years of this hobby have I ever attempted or even thought of attempting such a risk. Haplopelma are among one of the most aggressive species (certainly fellow senior hobbyists would agree) there is in the hobby. I wouldn't recommend you holding her. It is very sweet that you love her in that manner to give her a chance to see her "good" side but I must agree with Pociemon. There is no way that you can predict what she will do and it's highly probable (with this species) that by the time you realize what she intends on doing it will be too late. Not only will you be bitten but it may startle you so bad that you could drop her or sling her ultimately ending her life. Tarantulas are beautiful display pets. "Display" being the key word.

Yeah my H. Vonwirthi always seems calm and chill but one day when I dropped a mealworm in front of her burrow she launched through the air at my face. Ive never seen any behavior like that from her even remotely, but that one time she just snapped out of nowhere. I would definitely agree with the consensus that they are as schizophrenic as they come.
I thought I had a special non aggressive hap but I was sorely mistaken. Always be on your toes :)
Still a beautiful colbalt though!!
