I've made a post about this. The heat pad is not close to the cages, but mounted on a pane of glass, on a proportional Herpstat. It's worked great for five years in less than ideal temps.
@Venom1080 also it's set on 72. It's something I built while living in an apartment above a garage that was down right cold. I now live in a much better place, and being proportional it's never running above 25%.
@cold blood it served a purpose for four years, now it's probably over kill. The proportional thermostat avoids the full throttle on/off heat. What is the worry?
Because, like I said, it's has worked great for me. I don't want to run a space heater in the room when I have 2 Ts...$$$ The pad attached to the pane of glass helps to radiate a small amount of heat, the bubble insulation helps keep it within. Pad not close to actual cages. Don't see a reason to change it up I guess. I'm trying to figure out what you guys are worried about?
@NoSBoH Oh, I understand, man. While I don't use (and never used) additional heating of all sort, I know others here in Italy that used/use those without issues.
