New specie?

Thoughts? This was caught in the Philippines. It most certainly does not look like an orphnaecus philippinus
Well being a mature male it is likely much lighter in colour than its female counterpart. Have you observed any other burrows where this one was found?

I see, I never really knew they got that light since this one was quite gold rather than orange like O.philippinus. Could it be a sub specie or a different morph and I didn’t really seen any burrows near it when it was caught since it was caught at night I presume it was hunting but Im not really quite sure aswell.

I can clearly see its a mature male, meaning when it was found it was in searching for a female. It doesnt appear to look like mose Asian fossorials i know of

Well thanks for the info, I’m not really quite an expert at keeping yet. I’ve just only recently passed my first year into it. Thank you very much again! :)

Thats okay! We were all learners once (and still are!). If you look at the front pair of legs, you can see a small spike in the inner side, and under the very ends of his pedipalps there are some semi-hidden bulbs that are just visible. The males use the spikes on the front legs to lift a female up by hooking them around her fangs, and then use the bulbs to reach underneathe her and mate. Generally the males are much leggier and more slender so they can perform this more easily

I looked it up and it looks exactly like a mature male Ornithoctoninae sp. oriental mindanao or something similar. I'm not sure if I got the name right, but when I searched, the images that popped up under this name look exactly like the your tarantula.

It's a beautiful spider, by the way. This could go under the mature male appreciation thread! Sometimes I think that the males can look even more beautiful than the females. The maroon-colored setae on his abdomen are really unique-looking.
