Latrodectus hesperus
I love black widows! They’re lovely spiders and so different from tarantulas in how they catch prey!

Mine went back and forth from a dubia roach (which are fairly protected on their back, at least against small fangs), attaching lines of silk until the roach was pried away from the surface enough for the spider to get in a good bite!

My widow passed recently after having lost all interest in food for several months. She was 1.5 years post maturity when she died, which I think is about the longest they can live.

Where do you get your widows? I’ve had two so far, both rescue-removals — you know what I mean! I’m glad for my arachnophile reputation!:angelic:

yess I've heard of that, theyll do that with any large prey and that's why they can take big stuff down. they'll take their time make sure they're safe and let their useful venom do its job..

sorry for your lose sounds like she lived a long life and I hope you get more soon!! I found my randomly but I'm hoping to find some at a reptile convention coming up(cross my fingers), really want more species.. I also saw someone on here was selling slings of a few species.
