The pieces of egg carton could go. The argument could be made for anchor points, but I wouldn't consider those to be all that important for this species. Just seems unsanitary to me, maybe I'm just being fussy. Regardless, if that is indeed a sponge I see in the water dish then that should definitely be removed.. Nasty things, lol. Also yea, what @Moakmeister said. Needs waaaay more sub in there. That's quite a drop. Also does she have a hide already? Also what are those yellow things? I've edited this like 4-5 times..
@Krazykoize this is a terrestrial species, which means it's stocky and heavy. A fall from more than a few inches can make a tarantula's abdomen burst open and quickly result in death. Putting more substrate in the enclosure will prevent this. The distance from the ground to the top of the enclosure should be about the same as the tarantula's legspan. They also require substrate to dig in, and it looks like there's just a layer of bark on the bottom of the tank. Also, lose the bark. Use eco earth or some fertilizer-free potting soil.
@Moakmeister Speaking of potting soil, what brand do you use? I've been looking into bags of either potting soil or top soil. Haven't made the trip to lowes yet since I haven't had the $$$ but I have work again sooo yea. Everything I see at the wall-e world has fertilizers galore.
@Krazykoize probably lose those too..
Yea it's looking that way. Don't feel bad, this actually looks exactly how you'd find it in a petstore. Not your fault they spread terrible care info.
Edit: to give credit to my local petpartners, they've actually been taking better care of they're T's since I went down there. Also don't carry Avics anymore, just Rosies. Saving Avics from crappy petstores one at a time.
@Gman32176 I'm not using soil right now. I'm using some kind of hermit crab substrate that looks like mulch. I hate the way it looks so I'm gonna use Earthgro Topsoil when I rehouse Regina and get a second tarantula.
@Krazykoize You don't need to get rid of the cage. Just put her in a little tupperware container for about ten minutes while you fill up the enclosure with subtrate and rearrange her stuff a bit. Then put her back in.
