Harvestman

Found at Idaho Falls. I will not call them daddy long legs, that's what the Australian cellar spider is called :P
Any idea on the species? Legs 3 and 4 were much longer than legs 1, 2 and 5-8, similar to a whip spider. Total legspan would be around 20mm

I used to freak out all of the kids at summer camp by picking these up and letting them climb all over me lmao

@Asgiliath I hear there's some absolutely massive ones around Arizona I think it was, there was a pic uploaded of a huge one on here not too long ago. I can definitely see myself doing the same not gonna lie

@RezonantVoid yeah? I grew up in Ohio so never saw anything special. Gosh I love AZ though....my dad works out there about half of the year and when I go out I spend most of my time horseback riding but I’d love to go herping there! Haven’t seen a wild T yet but have dodged multiple rattlers on the trail!

I can confirm that this is indeed a harvestman spider. Believe it or not these are not actually spiders, they just have a kinship to spiders. These arachnids are really closer related to scorpions!

@MrGhostMantis harvestmen have their own order under Arachnida called Opiliones. So you're right about them not being spiders (no venom or silk glands, fused carapace, single set of eyes etc) but I don't think they are related more closely to scorpions. Their closest relatives are mites, Pseudoscorpiones and solifugae

I read somewhere that they where closely related to scorpions, but thinking of them as closely related to mites makes sense too.
