Goliath Baboon!

Guys seriously these are deffo Hysterocrates Hercules!! I grew these on from small spiderlings I found in a large imported plant 6 years ago. I have studied them and I am 100 % on this and I plan to breed them, just need a male. Please see the comments for a link to some very exiting reasearch..
From my understanding, there were no real imports of H. hercules ever brought into the hobby. The only import of "supposed" H. hercules that were imported that came in were actually H. gigas and were mislabeled/misidentified. Unless you have solid proof, I don't believe you have the real H. hercules.

That's a fair comment, but honestly I have spent two years researching all this and everything's coming up trump's description wise. I spent a lot of sleepless nights going through the ifs and buts and trying my best to prove its real Hercules with what I have available. Please check my y.t channel there's some good info on them and 80 pages of research documents available..

I did obtain in a plant import by chance at an estate where I worked. It was going into the outhouse, but being a security advisor we had to check everything that came in. There was one full of spiders, so being a t keeper I had to save some as the plant was to be incinerated as it would cause an infestation in the out house. Honest though look at the big carapace, dark colouring and short legs, giflgas is much different, and they do look black and a little green after a moult which I have heard of their description so many times.. everything matches to pockocks description though man, I literally done everything bar killing one to be compared to type specimen..

Not trying to be rough, but I'm not convinced it's a H. hercules. I'm not an arachnologists, but I am a hobbyists and from my knowledge, the Hysterocrates genus is one that cannot be easily identified by features alone as it may be the same or varies within different species of Hysterocrates specimens. Maybe @AphonopelmaTX may know something more on the side of taxonomy, but as far as I'm aware, no one has imported any true H. hercules into the hobby. The only WC imports brought into the US regarding Hysterocrates was H. gigas/ H. laticeps which was about 7 years ago and last year with H. crassipes that I know of. I've never been aware of H. hercules being brought into the US, but it's a game changer if it was the real deal H. hercules.

EDIT: Forgot to mention about H. sp. "Benin" brought into the US about a year or two ago.

Ah sure, that's ok, I do value your feedback. I would love to get some input from you and others on here as it is a bit of good news or something to look into for sure. Yea I can imagine they are like pamphos and obts with lots of variation in them. I did put on my channel the "has to be Hercules vid" deffo worth a look as it shows the drawings I done of Hysterocrates from pococks descriptions. Yea I have looked into so. "Benin" and "Niger" and they are very alike to gigas / crassipes. I studied the males of these and they mature around 5/6 inches. My male "hercs" I have are at 6 and still going. Very compact string spiders with a carapace 2-3 times that of gigas, crassipes, benin males, no jokes.. have to visit my channel my friend.. awsome.. oh I am in the U.K my friend..

THAT IS FREAKING AWESOME MAN!!!! I WISH I COULD FIND AN OLD WORLD BABOON IN A HOUSE PLANT! THE ONLY THING I FOUND WAS A FALSE WIDOW IN MY PLANT HANGING IN MY HOME... JEALOUS!

You say you found it in an imported plant, do you know where the plant came from? Hysterocrates is my favorite genus, so this is very interesting to me.

Haha cool brother, I guess it's a bit of a crazy find hey. I hope to breed em up so maybe you will get your hands on some one day! Oh yea false widows are everywhere now in UK too.. they never used to he, the warmer winters have allowed them to survive I rekon..

Ah brill, It's nice you are interested in them. Hopefully I can get some babies over to you in the coming years. There was about 20 big plants and smaller ones. From "west Africa" so that narrows it down slightly I guess. It's obviously difficult finding the plant specimen location. I'm just going with Nigeria as that's where the suspect spider is located.. not sure otherwise.. I know the males are huge for Hysterocrates so it could be Hercules's I guess..

That would be awesome! Hope this is a big big beginning!
Hopefully it wont take too long to get some over to the states.. but since there's a lot of red tape.. it'll be a long time..
