From Box to Temp
My gently trying to get her into her new temp, home.
The thing that I have noticed about Avicularia avicularia availability (in Canada, at least) is that the market gets flooded with them, everyone stops breeding them because they aren't selling, but then availability dries up quickly when all the males die off. You have an abundance of grown females around and no males. So, while you might come across females for sale, it is tough to find spiderlings.
In the almost 2 years that I have been volunteering at the expos, I have had dozens of people wanting Avicularia avicularia spiderlings specifically and we've never had them. It was luck that I happened across the male when I did and I will be keeping back a few in the hopes that I have another male amongst them. My two older females might not be able to breed at that point, but my younger female will be able.
Neither of my egg sacs would be what I would consider a success. I had no idea how long the male was mature and I think it had been a while. The second egg sac was a complete dud.
