So, I just picked up what was sold as C. minax and at first I thought it was probably C. vonwirthi but now I am completely unsure. Approximate DLS is 3.75". I tried looking for a taxonomic key but all the papers I found are in German. Anyways, any insights/help would be appreciated.
Looks a lot like albostriatus with that abdomen, but the legs don't have the right markings. Def not minax though. I think vonwirthi could still be on the table, but I might be mistaken.
@lostbrane Yeah, that's why I mentioned that the legs looked wrong lol. Looks like the T could really use a molt if that carapace is anything to go by.
Well it has already settled in it’s starter burrow so woo.
@Drea apparently true C. paganus is a bit of a mystery as the type specimen was lost and the discoverer did a poor job describing it. It seems that a lot of the spiders labelled as paganus are indeed vonwirthi. At least that’s what i gleaned from the few minutes of research I did.
@lostbrane This is 100% a C. vonwirthi. I don’t remember where I heard this, but someone told me that the key difference between C. minax and C. vonwirthi are the spinnerets. C. vonwirthi will have spinnerets that are peach in color, whereas C. minax don’t. Yours has peach spinnerets, so it keys out as C. vonwirthi.
