One determining factor on wether it is a platyomma or a machala is the hairs on the abdomen. You will need a full picture to get a better guess as to which it is. Machala have red hairs and platyomma have black hairs. The body color on both can range anywhere from pinkish to purplish - depends on a combination of growth, diet and gene variations within the species
I bought her as a plattyomma and she had the Christmas tree pattern also the males are the ones with the more vibrant purple correct and the females are less ?
All pamph juveniles look essentially identical unfortunately. That is correct, only males get vibrant colors. Females will turn either a dark brown or a black with very slight purple hues in the right lighting. Female pamphs are still beautiful though!
