Miturgidae sp.
Rhino1

Miturgidae sp.

Prowling spider. Very pretty, mid sized spider and quite a ferocious little hunter.
After some careful consideration this one will be sent off to the Australian museum, I can't get a 100% positive i.d and after having a good look at the eye structure and mouthparts it is probably closer to dolomedes than being in the miturgid family, the funny thing about it is that dolomedes is associated with water and this one was found in a lichen encrusted tree at least 3 metres above ground level in sclerophyll forest no where near any permanent or temporary water sources, one way or another I will have a spider named after me before I die, although it probs won't be this one lol

@Dennis Nedry that would be very cool, I'm just waiting to receive an email back from the experts now, sometimes takes a while, I've been back looking fir a male or at least another one but have been finding nothing.......except for ticks all over me when I get home haha

@Dennis Nedry
I've just received information regarding this from the head arachnologist that this is a species of Megadolomedes, they do build nursery webs quite high up in tree's which explains why it was found where it was.
Always learning something new
