One of Australia's largest trapdoor species, this girl is a monster. Never seen one even close to this size before. Measurement of the cephalothorax and abdomen is 55mm.

@letranger they are found in Australia (except the tropical north) I also believe they are found in Africa as well as some other countries.
They are an ancient species which remain relatively unchanged from when Australia was joined to other continents. Gondwana land, dun dun dun.
This looks like the one a guy from Mt. Tambourine sent me, but a bit larger. She was super docile when unpacking her, but refused to let go of her packing tissue. Absolutely awesome to watch feeding since they are lid makers.
Yes looking forward to when she sets her lid up, just so chuffed to have her here, both seemed calm but this one grabbed onto my little spider wrangling paint brush and went nuts when trying to move her to the new enclosure, I could here her crunching on it lol
@Rhino1 wouldn't surprise me if those other 4 are them Palisade traps that just got classified across QLD, each of them with unusually unique burrow structures. I can also see the similarities between the pictures, Gaius could be the true ID afterall
