In my opinion caterpillars are so underrated! we get tent caterpillars every year and I've seen people literally burn them alive on the tree for simply being born :( so we got a batch in the one tree we couldn't have them in and ended up cutting off thier branch and moving them inside to safety :)
You too, huh? I always take in stray caterpillars I find. If they're pests like tent moth or gypsy moth caterpillars, I just keep them instead of releasing them once they're adults. I just took in 3 tussock moth caterpillars a few hours ago (2 banded tussock and 1 white marked tussock)
@PidderPeets haha yup! Last year I actually came across a female underwing moth who layed a small clutch right in front of my eyes! It was still really cold/wet out and I wasn't sure if the eggs would even survive so I carefully scraped an off and hatch/raised em indoors ended up keeping 10 of 35 pillars to pupation. They were lovely and all went right outside the night after emerging
