Megaphobema mesomelas, AF, 6"+
raised from 2i and one of my absolute favorites with the strongest feeding response I've ever seen. She makes my genic's feeding response seem moderate.
@Ungoliant Theoretically they are burrowers, yes, but mine didn't get the memo although she likes her hide. Always moist - slings die as soon as things dry out just a little - and cool. One of the few spiders that can be kept at 65F and even below long term.

Get one! Slings are best, they grow fast.

@boina Ooh, cool is just right for me. I tend to keep things on the cool side. What's the maximum temperature they can live in?

How bad are their urticating hairs? (I am pretty sensitive.)

@Ungoliant For me the hairs are pretty harmless and she's never been a big kicker anyway.

People are undecided about the maximum temp. Some say they do well at up to 80F and even higher but I've heard that males turn out sterile if raised at temps above 75F. Personally I think they tolerate higher temps well - for a (short) while, but not permanently. They were my only spiders that were even more active in Winter when temps in my house can drop down to 65F at night and may stay below 70F during day. They still fed and molted on schedule while everyone else slowed down.

@KezyGLA Actually, my male already moved out :bag:. I had several people asking for him so I hope he's making the rounds in southern Germany by now. So I think she'll stay a virgin :penguin:
