L. Mactans female

My female black widow having supper eating wild cought field cricket.
@Dawnes1221 this is my female black widow. Also I started looking closer at my other three widows now that they are bigger to find they are actually false widows. I will post pictures of them as well when I can get a better shot.

Great shot! Their signature markings are a work of art by themselves! Will your female be able to lay an egg sac? Too bad those others were false but i would still love to see them, nature is amazing! Especially when some creatures mimic others as a defense mechanism.

just stumbled upon your first photo with the egg sac, that answered my question, how exciting!

Also, what type of enclosure do you have her in, if any at all, or will she stay in the same spot if she is loose outside?

I have her in a forty gallon reptile tank with a lid I customized myself so she couldn't escape it although I really don't worry about her escaping because she stays in her web. The only time she leaves her web is to strengthen it in order to catch prey, and then goes back into her funnelled hiding spot for something to get trapped which I assist with. Second she did lay an egg sack but it was probably because she was already pregnant when I cought her the false widow wouldn't be able to being different species.

Wow! Beautiful spider. I just love how red and noticeable her hourglass marking is. Very nice pic
