Penultimate Male Brachypelma albopilosum - 5"
Can you tell by the exuvium that a male is penultimate? I have always wondered how people knew...

@ErinM31 He hooked out with this moult. That makes the exuvia the one he was in just before he matured - making it the penultimate exuvia.

@VanessaS Ahhh. Often I see want-to-buy ads for penultimate males and I’ve been meaning to ask how people know the T is one molt away from maturing.

@ErinM31 I don't know how they know either. Unless they don't realize that penultimate means the one directly before the last one. Maybe they think that it means the same as immature?

@ErinM31 @VanessaS Penultimate is always technically a guess, but when a male is close to its maturing size, it's listed as penultimate, meaning the dealer suspects it will mature with its next molt.

Interesting accessory organs in this pic!

I wouldn't want to guess at that. Some species can be very difficult to guess at. I wouldn't even try to guess when my B.hamorii will mature. Even if you are one moult off in your guess - it could mean up to another year before they mature.
Nope, I'm not guessing. Mature or immature, along with size, and I'll let someone else guess.
