g.rose-1

is that the female or the male? can anyone tell by the color of it? i was wanting to know because mine looks just like that one except its not as hairy yet...

I'd say definitely a Grammastola Rosea/Chilean Rose hair tarantula, but I'm no expert. There are 2 others, the "Chilean common tarantula" and "Haitian brown tarantula" that look pretty much exactly the same as G. Rosea, so sometimes you never know for sure, especially if you got it from a pet store where most of these are wild caught and the people there know nothing about tarantulas.

Fortunately, all 3 species are not only basically the same in appearance, but also in habits and needs. If I'm not mistaken however, it hasn't even been fully decided among the experts if all 3 are even separate species, or not simply just color morphs for G. Rosea.

Heheheh.....sorry, but I have to disagree on that last statement.
Phormictopus spp. look nothing like any Grammostola I've ever seen.

Anyway, back to the original topic....

Yeah, this couldn't be anything other than a G. rosea
