These get quite a bit smaller to my knowledge. There is a bit of a resemblance, but I think it's the lighting in the picture and the fact this female appears to be quite a ways into her molt cycle (which apparently can be years).
@Ianpcfauna has a wonderful picture of a MF that's more or less recently molted.
I don't have any experience with S. cal yet, but I have enough experience with OW arboreals to say it's like comparing apples and oranges IMHO. Arboreals tend towards flight whereas fossorials, once dug up, tend to stand their ground.

Fair point. Most fossorials (limited experience, but have had a few crazy ones, C. minax being pretty high up there) and terrestrials I've owned don't spook me nearly as much as the fast and nervous arborials. P. ornata and S. calceatum get my blood pumping.
