Poecilotheria ??

I bought this as a P striata, but I’m thinking it’s something else….
You have a Poecilotheria subfusca. But identifying whether it is highland or lowland is near impossible. So don't breed it. Also contact the seller and tell them they got it misidentified.

and Opithsoma looks pretty skinny. Water and food. Consider it a score as that appears to be subfusca which would be banned

Thanks yea I’m pretty sure it’s subfusca lowland. I bought it in my state so it’s legal. I sent pics to someone who’s knowledgeable of poecilotheria because I *thought* I had a breeding pair of striata…now I know that is not the case. I’ve already fed it two large hornworms since taking this picture, but yeah. Kinda frustrating but still an awesome spider. I will look at the molt through a microscope to see if I can determine lowland or highland but I won’t breed anything if I can’t guarantee without the shadow of a doubt

How exactly would one identify Highland from Lowland? I'm curious to know myself.

Lots of threads here about it, but I believe it has to do with the coloration and shape of the carapace and I believe there to be ventral differences, with lowland being darker. Supposedly the lowland also grows larger. I'm waiting to hear back from the person who helped me to ID this on how he can tell. Here's a thread with links to many of the other threads.

Again, I will not pair unless I am able to confirm without any shadow of a doubt, I am just trying to collect info at this point after finding out about an hour ago that I was sold a mislabelled breeding pair. I believe the male that I also posted in ID thread is also Subfusca, but I am going to continue researching regardless of any breeding plans.

if you were in AZ there's a show and a dealer I know there has decent size Striatas
