I need help identifying this tarantulas species and sex.
What else? I’m new to tarantulas I don’t know anything about them lol
To get the sex you’re gonna have to get a nice clear pic of the book lungs (on the underside of the abdomen), to do this you’ll just have to wait for the T to be in a position where you can snap a pic. Another way is just to wait until it molts. Usually only mature males are distinguishable just by looking at them from the top.
In terms of species, maybe someone more experienced can chime in but it’ll help if you include where you found this T

I found him/her at one of my cousins house in Beaumont in like a dessert type area

Do the hairs have a bit of a reddish tint? I was looking at different Aphonopelmas and saw one called an Aphonopelma marxi that looks pretty similar to the one you have here! Especially if those hairs have that reddish tint. Another possibility is an Aphonopelma steindachneri. The unfortunate thing about Aphonopelmas (especially those in the U.S.) is that they are usually pretty difficult to identify as not too much work has been done to really identify the differences between all the different species. Often times, if it's not a chalcodes or a hentzi (which are more easily identifiable), they all just get grouped together as some random species. As this is probably my favorite genus, I really wish more research could be done to examine all the different characteristics of tarantulas in the U.S.
