Phormictopus sp. 3" juvenile male. Sold from a Euro import as "Caribean Emerald {green femurs/gold carapace}", but those legs are violet. Has anyone had a green femur/gold carapace at 3" show violet legs that turns green as it grows?
I know the males are supposed to get more green as they mature. As adults, the carapace is usually black with copper highlights. Femurs are velvety dark blue. The rest of the tarantula shows shades of gray with beige to white setae, and the males increasingly get an emerald green. It looks like the legs are that blue with some hints of green starting to come in giving it that violet like color. At least that's what I see.
Then again I had a Psalmopoeus irminia that was so dull and grey it looked more like a Psalmopoeus cambridgei.
Color is a fairly good way to ID tarantulas but a lot of individuals vary from the holotype.
Phormictopus change colors just about every molt until adult colors come in. It could turn green later. My first guess was Dominican violet but who knows
