Honestly looks more like the native Allothereua maculata to me. Scutigera coleoptrata is only very rarely seen in Australia, and lacks the pronounced pink bands on the segments.
@Staehilomyces i see! I did consider maculata but but from photographs it seemed Maculata is also more light grey in colour compared to the darker black. But i trust your opinion on pede matters far more than my own. Been chasing these down for years but only ever find dead ones
@MrGhostMantis they have great difficulty even biting people and lose their energy after a few minutes of running. It took me a few minutes to get in tune with its movement but after that they're very easy too manage

To be honest, the first time I saw one these guys at night as it ran across the beam of my flashlight freaked me out! But then I started researching them and they are just adorable!!! It's pretty cool how they bathe themselves meticulously one leg at a time; and they are pretty darn cute when they get scared by a little cricket, run away, and try to hide by sticking their head down and thinking you can't see them lol.
I used to be terrified of them, but then I researched them and found out how extremely beneficial they are to us and our homes. Now, I just leave them to do their thing and I don't even bother removing them.
That tyke you have there is huge. I've seen a couple of ours that large. One of them jumped from the wall and was big enough to make a small 'thump' sound as it hit the ground. They get pretty large in these parts.
