Those holes look kinda big. No matter how fat the abdomen is, if it's carapace can fit through the holes, so can the entire tarantula. It might be worth double checking

Thank you for the response, I double checked the holes and they are definitely smaller than the carapace, but you are right they aren't that much smaller. I'll probably glue down a wire mesh over them just in case...
