Blakistonia sp. Flinders ranges 1

This newly found unassuming trapdoor builds arguably one of the most incredible burrows of any known species. Will post pictures in due time.
Always love to see all the weird looking things you find down under
My jaw hit the floor when i saw photos of what this thing's burrow looks like. It makes an extended tube, either vertically against a rock or horizontally on the underside of a log, and then builds a wide semicircle of mud around the lid. Absolutely remarkable and gonna be awesome to try and replicate

Can't wait for the eventual picture

I'm surprised the usual crew of tossers haven't jump on and tried to berate you like they do most other members who upload picks of them handling spiders yet mate.
Cool little trapdoor though I haven't had anything to do wirh the blankstonia spp so far but ill have a look at these burrows your talking about for sure, sounds interesting

Difference with these is they lack scintillating scopula pads on their feet and therefore the ultra sensitive foot hair that causes T's to get stressed from picking them up. Barychelidae are an exception to that rule so I'll never pick those up, but almost all Idiopidae will voluntarily crawl into your hand if placed in front of them, have don't carry the large risks with them that T's do when you scoop them up!

Blakistonia are awesome, I have some particularly cool leaflid slings I'll send you a few of if you're interested
