Beyond animal cruelty. Animals locked in a building and discovered 2 months later.

A small pet store owner couldn’t afford the rent on the building. Instead of finding homes for the animals, he left them all to die. Two months later, someone came in and discovered the animals. This savanna monitor has the will to live and I am going to make sure that he thrives in my care.
@Liquifin The only knowledge I have is that 5 days ago, a neighboring business noticed a foul smell coming from the closed pet store business next door and looked through a window that had a small piece that wasn’t covered and saw movement inside. He realized that they animals were left there and he immediately broke in.

He started making calls to get help to get the animals that were still alive out and cared for. The local animal shelter was not equipped to handle reptiles and inverts and usually what they do in these situations is to euthanize the animals instead of just letting them suffer any longer.

This is where others and myself came into the picture. :) This guy wasn’t given high hopes because he still hadn’t eaten anything after 3 days and was labeled as critical condition due to sever dehydration and starvation. He is still critically dehydrated. I am using a syringe and giving him fluids which is a concoction of Pedialyte

When I walked by him he slightly moved his head and looked up at me. At that moment, I knew 100% that he was going to make it if I took him on. Plus I just loved him in that same second. I skipped the volunteer status and went straight to adoption.

He ate 12 hours later. :) and he has eaten every 6 to 8 hours after that. I can only give him the tiniest amount of food at a time though. I know he wants more than a spoonful at feeding time but it is going to take time for his stomach to go back to normal size. The food that he is on is packed with extra fats, protein, and calories so a little bit goes a long way.

Not to mention he won’t be able to process that much food because of the dehydration. This process is going to be slow. His vet appointment is on Thursday at 8. It was the earliest I could get an appointment for him. I just hope I am doing everything right until then.

If anyone has any advice Or has experienced an issue like this please share.

Also any name suggestions are welcome too.

@Ungoliant omg!! The Never Ending Story was my favorite movie as a kid. What I am talking about, I still watch it.

Falcor the Luck Monitor?

I was also thinking about calling him
Pelzer after David Pelzer. He survived extreme abuse and thrived after he was finally saved from his mother.

“The child called it” if you are interested but make sure you have a strong stomach or a punching bag handy when you read it.
