Austracantha minax
This is single handedly the species that got me interested in arachnids when I was a kid, they were once extremely common but not so much anymore.
We have a similar-looking species here called Gasteracantha cancriformis. They're one of the first orbweavers to show up in spring and the last to disappear in winter.

Nice! I've been looking up information on them and there is some beautiful species of these around the world.
There is also a few gasteracantha sp. here in Australia too and now (Autumn is the best time to see them)
Where are you located, was it you that has the ogre faced spiders in your orchard also?
