they are called Platymeris biguttata. I always thought they were from asia. so thanks for info.
 
@louise f African white spot assassin bugs is the "official" common name. (Your scientific name is correct too!) I've been looking to start a colony of these for a long time, but they're too expensive in the US. It doesn't surprise me someone told you (incorrectly) that they were beetles. People screw up insects all the time :p
 
They dont cost more than 2$ for one. I got mine for free though. One of my friends, he got tired of them, so i got them. :)
