it was already tangled and dry, i think it molted a couple of days and i only found out this morning. i tried moistening it but the exo easily ripped apart.
It's very easy to re-soften a molt without overdoing it. Simply setup one of your spare / carrying tanks to produce high-ish humidity, so damp peat moss, water bowl, and not much ventilation, and leave it in there 3 days. Otherwise soapy water spraying and a q tip. I've also heard isopropyl alcohol spraying
