Hey guys,

Just wondering if a flightless fruit fly is capable of eating a molting sling. My 1/4" L. difficilis sling hasn't accepted dead prey for 10 days. I've considered throwing a flightless fruit fly in there to see if he's just being picky or is actually in premolt. He's accepted pieces of dead crickets and mealworms in the past.

1. No, not unless the t is made of fruit.

2. Not eating for 10 days isnt a problem...its quite normal.

3. Fruit flies are nutritionally deficient...dont bother with them.

4. Slings fill up after only a few meals, once they do, its just a waiting game till they molt.

Easiest way to feed is to dice a mealworm to an appropriate size.
Doing this, as you have, will fill a small sling quickly, sometimes in just one or two feedings as i mentioned.

Thanks guys! I'll leave him alone then. I couldn't tell if he was skinny since it's my first spider this small, but his abdomen is a lot bigger than the sling in that picture. It's hard not to worry about such a little thing.

Pre killed is the way to go, the sling wont be pestered that way if its not hungry, and you can simply remove the feeder the next day.
