Thank crawler! I was told by the owner and a vet that it was a female, but im sure u r right since the vet wasnt really a dragon specialist. It doesnt really matter i lov her just the same. Yeah, when i got her she just layed down and she wouldnt open her eyes for about a week. I had to force her mouth open and basically shove the bugs in her mouth until she became strong enough to eat on her own. Do u know how old she is? The previous owner had had her for about 7 or 8 years, and i really cant believe she survived those years. Back to the minax, how do i get her subdued enough to put her into the container? Should i put it in the fridge for ten minutes or so? The idiot says it is lightening quick and i dont want there to be an accident for either of us.

To my knowledge, the P. Max is the only species to glow in the dark. Hope this helps.

well, im not going to tell him that. I think i will advise him a G. rosea, S. albo, or a B. Smithi if he wants a tarantula. I will also tell him about an emperor scorpion if he really wants a glowing arachnid. Those r definitely not for holding rit?

Emperor's are like the G. rosea's of the scorpion world...quite docile and reluctant to sting, some will pinch tho...and that can be plenty painful from what I hear (read somewhere that the larger ones can crack a fingernail lol...the Heterometrus sp. look very very similar but are a bit more feisty).

and be sure to tell him if he leaves the black light on the scorpion too often it will lose it's ability to fluoresce (glow if he doesn't understand that) and will not be regained until after it molts again. And scorpions only molt a certain number of times, so if it's already had it's last molt he'll be S.O.L. But 15 minutes a day should be fine...just don't leave it on all the time.

I know that under black lights some spider species glow. My friend was stupid and impulsive and he got a H. Minax (Thailand Black) for his girlfriend for her birthday becuase he wanted a glowing spider. Now they call it the "psycho" and it is a bit of a mess. I wonder if G. Pulchras (Brazilian Black) does glow, at least, it would be a better spider for her. Speaking of this, i am trying to convinve them to get rid of the minax and give it to someone who knows how to take care of and love him/her. Anyone possibly willing?
Ive never heard of this

Off Topic - sorry!

I don't know about how old it is, just that it looks full grown. While I wouldn't have guessed it to be that old (especially being kept under the circumstances you described) I would have said maybe 4, but that is a mere guess. They reach adult size at between 2-3 years old, under the best of circumstances. Under the worst of circumstances they may never reach their potential in size. A great website for water dragon info is:
http://www.icomm.ca/dragon/
Tricia (the lady who runs the website) has had several dragons, mostly female with one male. There are pictures of both on the website, and I also have pictures I could Email you of my male and females so you can see the difference yourself. You can tell yours is a male by the big huge head and triangular cross-sectioned body shape. I can understand how a vet could have trouble sexing one if they had never seen the differences in person (or in picture) before. The descriptions in books and on the web are difficult to decipher, and if the femoral pores aren't enlarged very much (my male's never did get enlarge) a lot of people could mis-sex them. But once you've seen the difference there is no doubt when you see a mature male. Juveniles of both sexes look like females, so sometimes it's hard to tell an immature male from a female (like many animals) but mature males there's no doubt!
If you have any other questions about it you can Email me at snow_print@hotmail.com and I'd be more than happy to help you out with anything you need. That way we wouldn't be dragging on too off topic on here too.
