Violin: ornate purfling (edging), short neck, upper and lower bouts have blocks, center bout well defined and extended. Upper and lower bouts are nearly the same size.

Classical guitar: Upper and lower bouts are 1/3rd-2/3rds, very little center bout. May have a block on one side but never two. Neck is proportionately twice the length of a violin neck compared to the body.
