As long as they have a moist retreat (burrow in deep substrate, 6” minimum) and a source of ingestible water, they can be kept bone dry. They’re common in sand hill/scrub habitat here which is essentially Florida’s version of a desert. They leave their burrows during the night to forage among the surface.
Growing individuals molt once a year and are below ground for 3-5 months, and it’s important they never dry out completely during then.
