Is UV-light dangerous for scorpions?

They keep some P. emperator at the museum and they are kept under UV-light. They stop glowing after a while and they are exchanged for some fresh ones.

Now I wonder if that is dangerous to them or not?

There have been lots of topics on this recently so you should do a search, but what the museum is doing is probably bad for the scorpions.

This has been covered already many times. The concern is that the cuticle over the eyes will become opaque, rendering the scorpion effectively blind.

Is that for long time exposure or short time exposure?

Long term. There should be no problems at all for short term exposure.

Ok, but why do they stop glowing after they are exposed to UV light?

Hi, where does this concern arise from exactly, have people actually observed it because as far as I'm aware its not mentioned in the literature anywhere dealing with scorpions/UV light.

It was brought up a long time ago on ScorpFans. I intend to test it scientificially in the future.

I'd certainly be interested in hearing the results, it sounds like it might arise from a misreading of the "The fluorescence of scorpions and cataractogenesis" paper, has the effect definitely been observed?
