It is slightly more of a science, especially for myself because I like to measure and control everything.
(Ex girlfriend: "You interrupt me every 10 seconds." Myself "You started yammering at 10:31am and 42 seconds. Now it's 11:02 & 11 seconds.". Went downhill later.)
Still, the art aspect matters because you really do want to see these guys at a glance without bothering them.
I would mention one other concept seldom brought up in terms of anything to do with them.
Ergonomics. They matter.
