A while ago I saw a pic on here of a T that had a purple carapace and that was the only thing that was purple. I'm pretty sure the genus name started with an E but I can't quite remember. I just spent nearly half hour looking for this pic with no luck. Does anyone know of any T's that start with E that have a purple carapace? It was quite a brilliant purple too.

Are you sure it was an "E"? I am thinking Xenethis Immanis or Phormictupus Cancerides.

Thats what I wasn't sure of. I know it wasn't Phormictupus Cancerides but I am now thinking of putting that on my to get list instead of the a. purpurea. Its way more purple.

I wonder if they all look like that or if this is just under natural light as well??

But I think you got it with Xenesthis Immanis. http://www.theraphosids.com/list_photos/X_immanis.jpg
Thats the purple carapace I was referring to (although not the pic I was talking about on here) Thanks:D

(Boy was I way off with the E{D )

I don't own either, but I think the p. cancerides carapace looks purple when the light hits it right, otherwise I think it looks brown. They are great spiders by all accounts, and I probably will be getting one myself soon.

I'm no expert, but it looks like it could be a freshly-molted Mature Male pampho. nigricolor??? I know the males of that species are extremely bright. From the picture you provided, I think I can see a hook on one of his legs. Perhaps one of our resident experts can shed some light... :)

The photos are labeled, (p. cancerides, and x. immanis) he was just wondering how purple they look in natural light.

Not super, Erik. I have 5 cancerides, 2 adult females, one penultimate male, and 2 very quickly growing juvies. I know that the male in particular has a lot of purple coloring on him, but unless the light hits him just right, the best way to see it is in a picture. When he matures I'm sure it will be obvious. The females I haven't seen any color at all.
Just remember, this species is very defensive and fast, they do not like to be messed with.
On the positive side, the juvies are quite entertaining with their complex tunnel systems and their earth moving projects, and boy do they have an appetite!!!
